More Thoughts From the Treadmill

It occurred to me if my sweat drenched t-shirt continues to rub the skin off my nipples every time I run, I may soon develop nipple calluses.

As sexy as that sounds, one has to wonder if nipple calluses aren't a risk factor for some super rare transformational nipple tumor...

  1. I doubt they are a risk for anything other than maybe a better tolerance for purple nurples.

  2. You need to get yourself some anti-chafing gel! That will fix you right up. If you go to any sporting goods store and tell the clerk your problem they will hook you up with the right product.

I wouldn't be able to run in shorts without my gel.

  3. POP: purple nurples!? LMAO!

NJ: I've heard of the stuff, but doesn't it leave you slimy? And doesn't it sweat off?

  4. The stuff I have lasts through an hour-long run and I sometimes still feel it on my skin after a shower. I think it depends on the stuff you buy. Some of the gels are solid enough they come in a stick like deoderant. The stuff I use is a bit more gloopy, but I can't run without it--one day I skipped it and SUFFERED. http://www.sportsbalmusa.com/bc_systemblue.htm (this is the stuff I use) I have heard a product called BodyGlide is good as well (http://www.footlocker.com/product/model:98189/sku:3221/Bodyglide%20Anti-Chafing%20Stick?supercat=home&cm=Cross%20Sell)

Good luck! I love reading your blog. I used to work as an LPN in a busy city hospital and now I am a newbie runner so I enjoy reading your posts.

  5. You could pop in at Target and get the self adhesive petals to protect your nipples while running. Not sure if they stay on with all the sweat though...

  6. Vaseline. Cheap, cheerful and in a pinch will give you a bright, shiny smile.

I swear by it for half-marathons, and I am a sweaty dude.
